Kesher Thirteen
is a special mitzvah project connecting Jewish youth and their parents
to Jewish elders in a way that is meaningful for the student, his/her
family, and the elder.
Participants
choose to either participate in small group activities, such as
holiday programs and Shabbat Services at Assisted Living Facilities
or to becomes a Friendly Visitor to one isolated elder in the community.
The Bar/Bat
Mitzvah student and his/her family agree to:
- participate
in a training session, complete 13 hours of service
(the training session plus 12 visits with an elderly person or
12 hours of Shabbat services)
- become involved
as a family in performing mitzvot
(record all visits in a provided journal, write a summary of the
experience upon completion of visits, and consider continuing
the visits after fulfilling the agreement)
Kesher 13 is sponsored
by Jewish Family Services. If you would like to know more about Kesher
